By this sentence, tether isaac Bashevis Singer Tim Williams and guitar player Mike Kennedy had already begun working on material for a fresh project; in the first place called Fix 8, the grouping started life as a side send off, exclusively with the breakup of VoD and the arrival of guitar player Nick Rowe, Bloodsimple took on a life of their throw. It all started with a sound call from Wesley Race, world Health Organization was at the Flamingo Club on Chicago's South Side, to Alligator Records owner Bruce Iglauer. Race was raving near a new feel, a lester Willis Young guitarist named Son Seals. He held the sound in the direction of the bandstand, so Iglauer could get an on-site paper. It didn't take foresightful for Iglauer to scramble into action at law. Alligator issued Seals' eponymous debut album in 1973, which was followed by sestet more.

Son Seals was born Frank Seals on August 13, 1942 in Osceola, Arkansas. His pop operated a juke joint called the Dipsy Doodle Club in Osceola where Sonny Boy Williamson, Robert Nighthawk, and Albert King cavorted upfront while little Frank listened intently in back. Drums were the youth's first base instrument; he played them behind Nighthawk at age 13. But by the sentence he was 18, Son Seals sour his talents to guitar, fronting his possess band in Little Rock.

While visiting his sister in Chicago, he aquiline up with Earl Hooker's Roadmasters in 1963 for a few months, and on that point was a 1966 erolia minutilla with Albert King that sent him behind the drumkit once more than. But with the dying of his don in 1971, Seals returned to Chicago, this sentence for effective. When Alligator gestural him up, his days fronting a banding at the Flamingo Club and the Expressway Lounge were numbered.

Seals' jaggy, inflexible guitar riffs and gruff vocals were showcased very effectively on that 1973 debut determine, which contained his "Your Love Is like a Cancer" and a hot subservient called "Live Sauce." Midnight Son, his 1976 encore, was by comparison a practically trickster amour, with close horns, funkier grooves, and a set list that included "Telephone set Angel" and "On My Knees." Seals LP in 1978 at Wise Fools Pub; some other studio concoction, Chicago Fire, in 1980, and a solid sic in 1984, Bad Axe, before having a disagreement with Iglauer that that was patched up in 1991 with the departure of his sixth Alligator set, Living in the Danger Zone. Zippo But the Truth followed in 1994, sporting some of the worst cover nontextual matter in CD account, just a stinging card of songs inside. Another unrecorded disc, Self-generated Combustion, was recorded at Buddy Guy's Legends club and released in June of 1996. Over the years, Seals had his share of hardship, bad deals, unemployment, and rip-offs that go on in the medicine business. However, his personal life took 2 crushing blows in the late '90s. On January 5, 1997, during a domestic dispute, Seals was shot in the yack away by his late mate. He miraculously recovered and continued touring. Two years later he had his left wing stage amputated as a result of diabetes. What would induce certainly forced almost performers into retirement only made Seals more dedicated to his euphony and audience. He came back in 2000, sign language with Telarc Blues, and recorded Lettin' Go. Seals preferent to remain close to his Chicago home, retention his touring itinerary to an sheer lower limit. Virtually every weekend he could be base somewhere on the Northside blues circuit, dishing up his raw-edged brand of bad blues ax to local followers. The blues complete for Son Seals on December 20, 2004; he passed aside due to diabetes related to complications.

Mongrel recruits Doherty, M.I.A., Saul Williams

Andy Nicholson talks about new band's debut album

MANCHESTER, England -- Pete Doherty, M.I.A. and Saul Williams are all likely to feature on the forthcoming debut album from Mongrel, the new band from former Arctic Monkeys bassist Andy Nicholson.
Nicholson, who quit Arctic Monkeys in 2006, is joined in Mongrel by former bandmate Matt Helders, who will take time out from the Monkeys to drum for the new band. Other members of the group include Jon McClure and Joe Moskow from U.K. alternative rock band Reverend and the Makers, Babyshambles guitarist Drew McConnell and London-based rapper Lowkey.
Speaking exclusively to Billboard.com, McClure described the as-yet-untitled record as an incendiary mixture of hip-hop, dance and rock, with a strong political message.
"I'm the singer, Lowkey raps and then we've got a few features from other people. We had Saul Williams come in and do a thing on it and hopefully M.I.A. is going to do something and maybe Pete Doherty. It's got a good flavor," McClure said.
"We're producing it ourselves and I've paid for it so far out of my own pocket just because I believe in it," he continued. "I'm excited about it because I think that it's an important record. We're saying things on this record that nobody's really had the bollocks to say in the last eight years. We're really taking a few people to task, kind of like we're Public Enemy or something."
The album is being recorded at London's Deep Street Studio and is set to be released in late 2008. Mongrel intend to make their live debut this year.
McClure also revealed that the forthcoming sophomore album from his group Reverend and the Makers is going to sound "apocalyptic and psychedelic" and that it will be heavily informed by "the overwhelming sense of the apocalypse being upon us."
"I feel that we're heading for a bad thing as a race of people," McClure said. "We're five tracks in so far and it's going really good. I'm going to do a poem on this record, which I think is an important thing."
McClure also launched into a stinging tirade against celebrity culture when asked what inspired the band's new single, "Silence Is Talking," which will precede the untitled album.
"That's hopefully going to be out by the end of the summer and it refers to the fact that nobody has had anything to say post-9/11 about what's the most critical time in human history," he said.
"In those eight years, we've had absolutely nobody that's dared to raise their head above the parapet," he said. "Unfortunately, I think people become scared because you get the Dixie Chicks who speak out and their career bombs, 3D (Robert Del Naja) from Massive Attack gets labeled a pedophile when he's done absolutely nothing wrong, the late Anita Roddick (founder of U.K. Cosmetics firm the Body Shop) questions war machines and global capitalism and is called scatty and hormonal. So I think people become fearful of speaking out."
"Where the f*** is David Beckham on these issues? Unfortunately, celebrity is the currency that people understand in this day and age so when a celebrity speaks people listen," he continued. "But unfortunately nobody has had any bollocks, really. You get your usual suspects like Billy Bragg and I suppose I fall into that category of 'leftie musicians.' But in terms of major celebrities nobody has said anything, and I think that's a travesty."

Drum'n'bass pervert Amon Tobin fuses hip-hop and wind compositional ideas with the bustling rhythms of rap and jungle and the bent grass sonic mayhem of ambient and nickname. Unlike peal junglists such as Alex Reece and Wax Doctor, yet, world Health Organization eviscerate from a softer, "ice chest" brand of wind, Tobin aims to uphold the heat of bebop and relieve wind, pairing nimble, galloping basslines with complex trapset orchestration and shrill, screaming horns.

A aboriginal of Brazil, Tobin moved to the U.K. in the mid-'80s, when hip-hop was beginning to take hold and the rhythms of breakbeat electro-funk were replacement reggae and punk as the underground youth music of selection. Tobin didn't begin seriously fashioning medicine until college, but his passionateness for the sampling station, as well as the support and encouragement of no less of breakbeat scientists than those at Ninebar and Ninja Tune, directly convinced him to relinquish a university career to focus on music (he was a few days into a photography point when he lay the hale project on hold).

James Tobin began releasing material with a trio of EPs (a pair for Ninebar, as considerably as the Creatures EP for Ninja Tune), and a full-length LP as Cujo (Adventures in Foam on Ninebar). Bricolage, his first LP under his own distinguish, was released in mid-1997. Beginning with 1998's Switch, Tobin full-lengths followed every other year, including Supermodified in 2000 and Prohibited from Out Where in 2002. A live performance was recorded for the Solid Steel series and released in 2004, and Tobin reached his highest visibility when he recorded the soundtrack to a Tom Clancy video plot, Splinter Cell 3. The studio album Foley Room, from 2007, relied on field recordings from Tobin and others, and featured performances by Kronos Quartet. He has as well performed remix and production work, for fellow native Brazilians Bebel Gilberto and Airto Moreira as considerably as Ninja Tune compatriots Coldcut and the Irresistible Force.
